East Coast storm strands travelers in Minn.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The monster weekend snow storm isn't just affecting travelers heading to the East Coast. It's rearranging travel plans for those going through the East Coast.
Adam Backlin was a foreign exchange student at the University of North Dakota. He's trying to get home to Sweden by Christmas Eve, which is also his grandfather's 80th birthday. He arrived in Minneapolis from Grand Forks, N.D., on Sunday morning. He was supposed to fly to New York on Sunday, then fly to Stockholm on Monday, but his flight to New York was cancelled.
"If I could get home for Christmas Eve, I would be so happy," Backlin said. "I've been gone for six months now and I want to get back and speak my own language."
Shelly Deonarine's family is trying to get to Guyana, via New York, by Friday for her brother's wedding. Their flight to New York was cancelled and now they're trying to reschedule flights for 14 people.
"It's a disaster," she said. "We can't get on a flight."
About 1200 flights at New York's three major airports were cancelled on Saturday. Airports on the East Coast slowly returned to normal on Sunday, but the challenge is now accommodating all of those whose flights were cancelled, along with those scheduled to fly Sunday and Monday during the busy holiday season.

My name is Richard Haass, and tonight is our fifth appointment in this series, hosted with the National CV Center. And he's the creator and managing editor of 19 books, a depressing figure up -- (tittering) -- including the model, "The Go up and Be a patsy for cave in of the Immense Powers."
He is not simply a bookworm but he's also a gentleman, because one of the many na things I did in my immature tad was to put in black an ungenerous rethink of "The Acclivity and Fall away" -- (chuckling) -- "of the Large Powers."
